Heterogeneous effect of financial development on structural change in developing countries
Summary: This article analyzes the heterogeneous effect of financial development on structural transformation in developing countries by applying a quantile regression model to panel data covering 83 developing countries over the period 2000-2018. The results indicate that the magnitude of the positive effect of financial development on structural transformation depends on the structural characteristics of countries. The effect of financial development on structural transformation is weak in countries characterized by a low level of structural transformation and strong in others. These results highlight the crucial role of financial development in the structural transformation process of developing countries. In terms of economic policy implications, these countries could implement strategies aimed at promoting financial development in order to accelerate their structural transformation process.
